James Murdoch has just arrived at the #Leveson inquiry ahead of his day long grilling. I'll have all the latest along with @SkyFixerJim
Murdoch jnr is in the #LevesonInquiry hearing room. His testimony is about to start. #hacking #Leveson
James Murdoch sworn. #LevesonInquiry
Robert Jay QC will be asking the questions. He looks like he's in a businesslike mood. Less smiley than usual.
James Murdoch sworn in and beginning evidence before Lord Justice #leveson
James Murdoch says his decision to resign from non Exec Chairman of BskyB was taken so as not to become a lighting rod negative issues
Murdoch now being questioned on his business ethos.. sought to foster an open management culture where managers would share information
Murdoch's witness statement says he sought to foster an open management culture.
Asked if he encountered an open business culture at News Int, Murdoch said these things always take time to foster #leveson
Murdoch says it is self evident that whatever news gathering controls were in place at News International, they were deficient #leveson
He's now being asked about the measures he's introduced recently to ensure his companies are operating legally and ethically. #Leveson

Murdoch says he was given strong assurances the Editor's code and PCC code were adhered to at NOTW in wake of original #phonehacking scandal
Jay: did you read the News of the World and the Sun? Murdoch says he "tried to familiarise himself" with them to chuckles in media tent.
Murdoch says the result of the Max Mosley privacy court action was disappointing. Legal costs of around £1 million #leveson
Murdoch now being asked about the Max Mosely "orgy" privacy case resulting from a famous #NOTW scoop.
Murdoch says the affair was a matter of great regret and the story shouldnt have run. Agrees the case cost NI about £1m. #Leveson
RT“@ExBankerLovinIt: You can tell from @skymarkwhite tweets that he works for Murdoch. Very restrained ! #leveson”
Murdoch: its important to remember that the profitability of the #NOTW in the end did not save it.
Murdoch fights shy of admitting that the gossipy tittle tattle of the #NOTW was the real reason that most people bought it.
Murdoch is now being moved onto the subject of #phonehacking and the "For Neville Email".
Now onto the infamous "For Neville" email, which Murdoch claims he didn't have sight of originally #leveson
On arrival at NI I was given assurances that the #NOTW had been investigated and there was no evidence of #phonehacking beyond Goodman.
Murdoch says he was assured by NOTW managers when he took over at News Int that phone hacking issue had been thoroughly investigated
LJ #Leveson intervenes on these assurances. Did you ever ask, "how did this (Goodmans phone hacking) happen? Did you probe?
Murdoch: I asked the new editor, what have you done to make sure this doesnt happwn again?
Murdoch: I was not aware that Goodman had claimed that others were involved in #phonehacking Jay: Are you sure, Mr Murdoch? #LevesonInquiry
Murdoch being questioned on specifics of a briefing re phone hacking on 27th May 2008. He tells #leveson he doesn't recall the specifics!
Jay reminds Murdoch of Crones testimony when he said he was sure post-Goodman that there were "bombs under the newsroom floor".
In a nutshell JM is saying that he was unaware for a long time after Goodman that #phonehacking was rife and ongoing at the #NOTW
Jay QC is struggling with this assertion. He cant understand why NI execs would want to hide it from their new boss.
Murdoch doesn't recall May 2008 conversation with NOTW editor Myler about claims by Clive Goodman that phone hacking was widespread
Murdoch now being questioned about the Gordon Taylor settlement. #LevesonInquiry
Now onto briefing of 10th June 2008, where Murdoch was brought up to speed on Gordon Taylor phone hacking litigation #leveson
Murdoch says he was given strong legal advice to settle Gordon Taylor claim so painful evidence from the past wouldn't be dragged up again
Jay QC asks JM if he was aware that the For Neville Email hinted that Mulcaire was #phonehacking for others at #NOTW No, he wasnt.
Jay is pushing hard on the Taylor issue and what JM knew at the time. Did you use the words: "this guy is trying to blackmail us"?
Murdoch asked wasn't it odd that NOTW managers had offered £350,000 to Gordon Taylor without reference to him first. JM didn't find it odd!
JM is keeping his cool. Says he doesnt recall using those words about the strangely huge payout that Taylor had rejected.
Jay QC just quoted a very rude word. He must be aware that his performance is being broadcast live on many platforms.
Essentially Robert Jay QC is pushing Murdoch on the Gordon Taylor briefing he was given, suggesting he was told more than he recalls
Jay: either you were told about the links between others at #NOTW and Mulcaire. In other words a cover up....
... or there was a failure of governance on your part. Which was it? JM rejects both these assertions, suggesting a third way. #phonehacking
Robert Jay puts it bluntly: Either Murdoch was properly briefed and there's been cover up, or he wasn't and it's a failure of governance
