OP: No, my lady. I kept my ammunition in my other safe. My father put his ammunition in my safe for safe keeping.
Nel: Do you know that your father would not sign that, that is his ammunition?
OP: I am not aware of that, my lady.
Nel: Are you aware that there were several attempts to get your father to comment on this matter?
OP: My lady, there has not been contact with my father for several years.
Nel: So, how did you keep his ammunition in your safe if you do not speak to your father?
OP: My lady, the relationship has been strained for several years. I offered to keep it here for safe keeping.
Nel: Did you ask Mr. Roux about keeping your father's ammunition in your safe?
OP: I did my lady. He said what I had thought.
Nel: Did he say that it was legal to keep ammunition for a firearm in your safe with out a license?
OP: I said to him, that is my understanding and he agreed.
Nel: Mr. Roux, would not have said to you that it was in order for you to do that.
OP: My understanding that it is still not illegal to do so.
Nel: I am asking the questions again, did Mr. Roux tell you that it was legal for you to keep your father's ammunition in your safe?
OP: He did not use those words, my lady.
Nel: I am certain he would have said "No".
Nel: For someone that has more than one firearm, you grew up with firearms?
OP: It is my understanding that you can place your ammunition in my safe for safe keeping.
Nel: Do you know when your father put it there?
OP: I am not sure, I am in and out of the country. I am not sure when he put it there. It is at the bottom, so it was some time ago.
Nel: You were not legally allowed to have it in your poessesion?
OP: My understanding is that if someone wants to place their ammunition in my safe, it is legal. Even if it was in my possession, it was not for my use.
Nel: If you are in possession of ammunition, you can put it in your safe. But now you are possessing your father's ammunition, you do not have a license for it.
OP: It was my father's ammunition. I did not have a firearm for that ammunition.
Nel: You have reminded me of something else. You kept a magazine in your bedside table.
OP: That is correct, my lady.
Nel: Do you agree with me that it is illegal to keep ammunition in you bedside table?
OP: My lady, when I wasn't at home it was in the safe. That night I got arrested.
Nel: So you tell me, if you are not at home, you would put it in the safe?
OP: At times I would carry it with me, at times I would put it in the bedside table. If I was going away I would lock it in the safe.
Nel: So the day of the incident, you had it in your possession the whole day ?
OP: I cannot remember, I think I did not have it with me that day. I left it at home.
OP: I do not think so. There was times that I forgot to lock it away.
Nel: If I tell you it was illegal to have your father's ammunition in your safe, would you agree?
OP: My lady, the law is very difficult. I cannot say that I change my plea.
Nel: I see, it is the second time that you wouldn't accept. At least we see that sometimes you are unresponsible.
Nel: Did you try and make contact with your father to confirm that it was his?
